About Us

Gentec Manufacturing was started in Santa Clara in 1976 by Don and Dolores Memeo. At the time most of the work that was done was for up and coming semiconductor industry that was quickly growing in Silicon Valley.

Gentec was purchased from the Memeo's in 2001 by the Diaz family who implemented a steadily grown plan over the past 20+ years.  What began as 3 CNC Machines and a single employee has grown to 20 CNC Machining Centers, 2 CMM's and 35+ employees that currently exist today. Mark Diaz has been in charge of the day to day operations at Gentec since 2001 and has put every ounce of energy, persistence and sacrifice into its success.  There is no job in the shop that he has not performed at one time or another over the 20+ years under new ownership, which leaves him in great awe and understanding of the skills that the employees possess and what they, as a team, can provide to their customers. Mark personally bought Gentec entirely from the family in 2016 because he believes in the team and system that has been built and thus his commitment to our customers, employees and suppliers remains everlasting.

Quote from Mark: "Gentec is my pride and joy and although stressful and challenging on a regular basis, there is no other way I can imagine spending my working life."

Mark Diaz - President / Mechanical Engineer

Mark received his Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo (Go Mustangs!) in 1999 with a concentration in the newly created Mechatronics program. He worked his way through college by working at several machine shops in San Luis Obispo, including managing the Cal Poly on-campus shop. He also worked at 2 different machine shops in San Jose, California, his hometown, during the summers and school breaks. After graduating, Mark spent some time as a mechanical engineer at a local Environmental Science company before returning to San Jose to seek further career opportunities. Mark's engineering experience, programming expertise, coupled with his hands on manufacturing and machining skills, has been a key contributor to the growth and success of Gentec. He is consistently invited to participate in corporate manufacturing engineering meetings to seek engineering changes that can increase efficiency and decrease cost. His enthusiasm and love of machining and quality continues to drive Gentec along the road to success.

As with any successful business owner, Mark is supported heavily by his talented and loyal staff.  The group has been instrumental in creating an atmosphere where everyone has the ability to suggest ideas and implement changes.  In addition, the team as a whole completes the challenging day to day operations of a high quality machine shop, ensuring a collective approach to quality and manufacturing.  The term "team" is used repeatedly, not only internally but when referring to both customers and  suppliers who collectively contribute to producing high quality, cost effective products.
